Council Tool - Velvicut 4lb Dayton Felling Axe

Council Tool Velvicut 4lb American (Dayton) Felling Axe

An axe built to be passed down rather than replaced, the Council Tool Velvicut American Felling Axe is the kind of tool that serious woodsmen reach for when the work actually matters. This is a full-sized felling axe finished to a standard that is genuinely rare in modern tool manufacturing.

Every head is rough ground in a precision robotic cell, then taken by hand through progressively finer abrasives before a final leather strop brings the edge to razor sharpness. The bit is heat treated and quenched to a hardness of Rc 52 to 56, extending 1.5 inches up the blade for edge retention that holds up through sustained hard use without becoming brittle. The classic Dayton pattern is a full-sized shape long favoured by experienced woodsmen for its balance and efficient cutting geometry, and the 5160 alloy steel head is backed by a lifetime guarantee.

The 36" grade A American hickory handle is selected specifically for grain orientation and density, then mounted traditionally with both a softwood and round steel wedge for a fit that stays tight over decades of use. The head is oil coated to resist rust, and the handle is finished with linseed oil to protect the wood through seasons of outdoor exposure. A premium embossed leather sheath, also made in the USA, is included with every axe.
