The Tempest 165 is the more compact model in the Tempest family, designed to fit paddlers in the 99 to 155 lb range who want a true performance sea kayak rather than a recreational hull that happens to float. The paddling characteristics between the 165 and the larger 170 are nearly identical, so the choice between them comes down to finding the right fit for your body. The moderately rockered hull, chined sides, and shallow V bottom deliver the same responsive, confidence-inspiring ride that defines the series, tracking well with the skeg up, turning predictably downwind with it deployed, and snapping into course corrections through edging and leaned turns. Initial and secondary stability are both rated high, and the flared bow sheds waves cleanly in big water while the low deck profile keeps windage to a minimum on exposed Canadian waterways.
