Current Designs - Karla (Kevlar)
Current Designs -Â Karla in Kevlar
The most wave-focused kayak in the Kromann-Andersen and Current Designs collaboration, the Karla is built for paddlers who want to spend real time in the surf zone.
This is the third design to come out of the partnership between Current Designs and Danish designer Jesper Kromann-Andersen, and it pushes further into dynamic, moving water than either the Prana or the Sisu before it. The Karla is slightly shorter and narrower than the Sisu, with extra volume added to the bow specifically to resist pearling when the nose drops into a steeper wave face. That's a thoughtful design detail that makes a genuine difference when you're committed to a ride and things get steep.
The hard chine and shallow-V hull give the Karla crisp, defined edging and reliable tracking, while the symmetrical form keeps the handling balanced and predictable. The keyhole cockpit is a practical choice for this style of paddling, offering easy entry and exit without giving up the thigh contact you need for bracing and control. In Kevlar, the boat comes in at 49 lbs, which you'll appreciate every time you're ferrying back up the beach. Three hatches keep overnight or multi-day touring within reach when the surf flattens out.
A capable Danish-style sea kayak for intermediate to expert paddlers who want more from their time on the water.
